SUMMARY:PENNDOT PUBLIC MEETING BRIDGE PROJECTS
DESCRIPTION:PennDot is developing bridge replacement plans for bridges on Route 4001 (W. Bakersville Edie Road) and T-364 (Jimtown Road).  A public meeting and plans display for those interested in learning more about these projects is scheduled for March 26\, 2024 from 6 pm to 7 pm at the Bakersville Volunteer Fire Hall at 2341 Bakersville Edie Road\, Somerset.  \nThe project on W. Bakersville Edie Road involves replacement of the existing single-span superstructure over Moore Run. Traffic will follow a detour during construction.\nThe Jimtown Road project consists of replacing the existing one-lane\, single-span Gardner Bridge over Laurel Hill Creek.  A detour will be implemented during construction.\nFor additional information concerning the meeting\, contact Joel Gallagher\, P.E.\,  PennDOT Project Manager at 814-317-3063 or Kelly Jones\, P.E.\, EADS Project Manager at 814-445-6551.

SUMMARY:BIG SAVAGE TUNNEL
DESCRIPTION:Big Savage Tunnel is opening on Thursday\, March 28th for the 2024 season!\nCrews from Somerset County and the Somerset County Recreation & Trails Association will open the west and east portals in the morning and riders will have full access by noon.  This marks the 18th season the tunnel has officially been open.  \nThe 3\,294-foot-long tunnel was originally built for the Western Maryland Railway in 1912 but was abandoned in 1975 and fell into considerable disrepair. Reconstruction of the tunnel was completed in December of 2003.  \nThe Tunnel will remain open daily from dawn to dusk\, until early December.
